PEANUT and BUTTER!

This post is for dog lovers... :)
If you aren't interested in little puppies, scroll to the next post!

So back in January I noticed 7 brand new puppies at the end of our street! They were so tiny and cute! I instantly fell in love and stopped to see them everyday. They are stray puppies but happen to be in a fenced area where the momma had them (an outdoor restaurant that recently closed down -- and is vacant). I could only pet them by reaching my hand through the tiny opening under the fence...They loved to have their bellies scratched and also loved the attention. As the puppies got a little bigger and were able to get around I noticed that I didn't see all of them when I would stop. Not sure what happened to them and don't really want to think about it too much. I know that one of my neighbors took one and has it as a pet...he is well taken care of which makes me happy!

So, essentially there were 3 puppies left - 3 boys - 2 black and 1 brown. There is an older Thai man that lives right across from the puppies and he is such a sweet guy. He always puts food out for all of the soi dogs (street dogs). He puts food up and down the road so that all of the dogs can eat...Once the puppies were born he would make sure they were being taken care of also. He would bring them milk and other soft foods like rice. He speaks no English but he realized that we shared a common interest...the little puppies!

I stopped like always as I was driving home from school...As I was pulling up I saw that the old man was in the fenced area and he started speaking to me in Thai as soon as he saw me... I didn't understand but saw that he had one of the black puppies on a counter top and he wasn't moving at all... I instantly went running back there to see what happened... Long story short...the puppy was still alive but not moving...I wasn't sure what the old man was going to do with him as he had a brown box sitting on the counter beside the dog...I was heartbroken and just wanted to know that the dog was going to be taken care of...Finally I had him write in Thai what he was going to do and I had one of my friends translate it for me...Turns out the dog was hit by a motorcycle and the man was going to take it to a pet clinic...

My heart instantly went out to the little puppies and I just felt like I needed to do something...So I asked him if I could take the other black dog home and give him a bath because he is sooo dirty (the brown puppy is totally uninterested in me...he is already like a soi dog that isn't phased by people). He was happy that I wanted to care for him and was totally okay with it! I ran to the store, bought shampoo and came back to get the dog!

He didn't want me to leave - such a little snuggle bug!

This was such an experience for the little puppy! He was so freaked out by the tile floor in my bathroom and was pretty scared of the water as well...He was definitely freaked out and totally out of his comfort zone...After I was finished I wrapped him up and sat outside in the sun with him. He was shaking like crazy - probably cold and nervous! I kept him at the house for a few hours before bringing him back.

The next morning I stopped by and the little black puppy was there! From what I could see, he wasn't moving at all...I was really nervous that he had died but had to get to school. I stopped after school and I didn't see him...So I went behind the fence and saw him laying on the other side of the building!! He was definitely hurt and not moving much, but he was still Alive!!

Butter

Little Peanut...this was the day after he got hit...He was sooo hungry!! :/

Peanut :)

From that point forward I took care of them like they were my own puppies! :) I brought them milk (as the mother was weening them off of nursing)...and started feeding them my leftovers...I also introduced them to Peanut Butter!! :)

Butter did not want me to leave!
Playing with/in my skirt!

I also decided that I needed to name them! :) The one that was hit by the motorcycle was definitely the runt of the litter...and the lack of nutrients after the accident definitely kept him pretty small...well, at least compared to the other black one that was a little chunker! So I decided to name them Peanut and Butter! :) Peanut was the little runt and Butter is the little butter ball....and the first thing I ever gave them was Peanut Butter! :)

I started to bring them back to my house each afternoon and just let them play in my front porch area... :) They loved all of the attention and got super comfortable at the house. Unfortunately, each evening I had to bring them back to the restaurant.

Clean little munchkins!

About a month ago I stopped after school to see the puppies and automatically felt like something was different...I jumped off my bike and went into the restaurant...the puppies were no where!!  My heart sank and I knew that someone had to have taken them...I felt that it was odd that all 3 of them had run away, etc.

The man across the street saw me looking around for them and was trying to tell me where they went...but in Thai! I had him write down what he was saying and had my friend Ian translate for me...

Turns out they were taken to a temple by some Monks. They are going to be cared for by the Monks at the temple and will have more love and attention than I could have given them. I was super grateful to know that they were going to be taken care of but super sad that they kind of just "disappeared".
