This post is overloaded with videos and pictures from Sport's Day. I tried to cut back but I just loved all of them and wanted everyone to experience as much of it as possible. Sport's Day is something totally different than anything I've seen in the states and I hope you enjoy the videos and pictures as much as I do!
Sport's Day is a huge event that everyone in the school is involved in and normally takes place in November (at least at our school). The whole school has been planning and prepping for this since the beginning of the school year (May). The whole school (teachers and staff included) are split up by random into 4 teams...you are either red, yellow, blue, or green.
You may have noticed in previous pictures of my munchkins that they have different colored shirts that they wear on Wednesday's (P.E. day)... I got placed on the red team! :)
Sport's Day is a two day event, Thursday and Friday. The event starts out Thursday morning with a HUGE, ELABORATE, BEAUTIFUL parade... Each team comes up with the most amazing costumes and ideas for the parade. The girls are dressed to the nines (from kinder-P6) and everyone is so actively involved. After the parade the sports start...Thursday was International sports and Friday is designated for Thai Sports... There are cheerleaders for each team, but "cheerleaders" here are different than in the states. There are multiple groups of girls for each team that are done up in makeup and fancy outfits. They cheer/dance the WHOLE ENTIRE DAY... the groups will rotate, but essentially these girls are standing out in the sun dancing/cheering from 9am - 4pm Thursday and Friday!
The parade is the start to the events that take place over the 2 days...the parade leads into the Opening Ceremony of Sport's Day! Kind of a big deal...with fireworks, performances, and a welcome speech from the Governor.
The International Sports include basketball, volleyball, soccer, track, relays, etc.
Thai Sports include things like chairball, a game like basketball but on a soccer field with a soccer goal, but using a basketball?, a race where you run in circles with a flag while trying to tag the other team...and many others that I am not quite sure how to explain! Friday was a lot of fun to watch as I'd never seen some of these sports...
Okay that is all the explaining I'm going to do for now... Here comes the overload of videos...but I will give a little explanation of what each video is.

until all four are running towards the stage with the torch.

Acare and New...they both decided to stay in the classroom (alone) and play instead of sweating outside all day! :) these girls are too funny!
The male teachers play soccer against the parents...the female teachers play chair ball... So essentially both teams have one person that stands on a chair, holding a basket... I would try and get the ball into MY teams basket...So the person holding the basket would TRY and catch the ball that I threw at her...Also, once you have the ball you can't move...So you can run around and block the other team...just no moving after you catch the ball. This game got really competitive and was a ton of fun...As you can see in the picture, the Teachers WON!! :) Parents were definitely great competition!
